Fabianski v Ludo
Having seen Fabianski ridiculously voted greatest West Ham keeper ever on claret and Hugh (I know, I know). I was surprised to see Martin Samuel (the highly regarded West Ham supporting sports writer - albeit now working for the daily mail) specifically mention Fabs injury in his weekly column. In the article he states quite emphatically that Fabianski is the best keeper since Phil Parkes....do others agree with that?

For me, I just about remember the Valentine’s Day massacre losing 6-0 to Luton and not much else of that time. My dad has all the programmes from the 60s - 90s that I always enjoyed reading, so I know that Ludo came in soon after that defeat (was it the next game?).

My first season ticket started from Boxing Day 1990 & no keeper has come close to Ludo since then in my opinion. I’m a bit uncomfortable with Fabianski being rated alongside such company, but I do agree he is a fantastic keeper. I agree he has very little comparison in the last 20 years, though the same can be said for Rice & Haller.

I’d be interested in what the old school supporters think of Fabianski in comparison to the legendary Goalkeepers we’ve had since the 1960s.

Personally I feel he’s still got a long way to go before I see him as superior to Ludo.

Best Premier League keeper we had was Shaka Hislop, James did ok, Green was good shot stopper, Lama I loved. Ludo as great a man as he is, was not as good as them keepers, kept getting battered.

The commentator for the Bournemouth game described Fabianski and Roberto as "glovesmen".

I don't know how I feel about that.

Best ever West Ham keeper display I ever saw was Tom Mcallister in a 0-0 draw at Anfield.

Fabianski was very very good for Swansea for several years before us too (i know we're only going by their time at west ham here), he won their player of the season the year they went down before he joined us.

Could never figure out why so many people slated him when we signed him, assuming most of them hadnt watched much of him.

Re: Fabianski v Ludo
to be fair, Ludo was #1 for many years in the PL.
Fabianski has had 1 great season.

For me, Rob Green is the best i've seen for consistency.

Too young to have seen/remembered most of these performances, although i did go back and watch Ludo's performance against Man utd to cost them the league.

Best keeper performance I've seen a west ham keeper was Green against Arsenal.

Can't remember Fabianski ever having one of those types of performances for us but he seems to make things look easy and he's always so calm that maybe they just dont stand out as much.

`Ludo probably put in the best display I've ever seen from a keeper at Sheff Wedn away when we drew 1-1. David Hirst probably went home and kicked the fuck out of his cat after that game`.

Yeah top notch display that... Dicksie got a deflected equaliser IIRC?? They absolutely steam rollered us...

Best display I ever saw was Parkesy up at the Hawthorns... never seen anything better from ANY keeper never alone a WHU keep'

Re: Fabianski v Ludo
We've been both blessed and cursed with keepers over the years, with Parkes, Ludo and Fabianski being the best of the past 40 years.

Parkes was brilliant and also had to put up with some seriously fucked up bobbly pitches, which today's keepers don't get.

Ludo probably put in the best display I've ever seen from a keeper at Sheff Wedn away when we drew 1-1. David Hirst probably went home and kicked the fuck out of his cat after that game.

Too early to elevate Fab over either of those, but another couple of season of playing exactly how he has and I'll happily say he's the best I;ve seen.

I mean 99% of us must be bloody chuffed to bits with how he's turned out, as I'm sure most of us were sceptical.

I'd say Fab is slightly more reliable than Ludo. He's ultra consistent.

I think Ludo made really amazing top draw world class saves than Fan.

It's v close but Ludo shades it for me.

Fab is the first goalie we have had since Parkes that when the oppo get a chance my first thought is he is going to save it, rather thing being surprised / pleased when he does.

Loved Ludo but never made me think that.

So for me, he is the best since Parkes.

Ludo use to have a strange habit of coming completely out of his goal to try and catch the attacking teams throw on. Use to scare the life out of me

I know eerie.

And to be fair, i know you won't be flapping about Fabianski being out for a couple of months.

But, you know there are plenty out there who will do. So i just think we need to get used to Fabianski not being about.

Oh fuck it, im here now. I loved Ludo and he was very good on the whole for us.

But, Fabianski is better.

My dear, dear Fabianski.

Fucking hell SUM, he's a football player who's injured for a couple of months. Sort yourself out, you're given Brentford Road a run for his money in the pansy stakes.

How is it hippy clap trap?

It would be more hippy to be going all sentimental about him.

Re: Fabianski v Ludo
Haha!

It's just a weird conversation to be having seeing as he's about to be out for 2-3 months.

Thr club and us as fans need to move on for now, so he's absence isn't such a negative thing. Going on about him now, won't help acheive that.

Still, i shouldn't be surprised. Common sense and logic don't exactly go hand in hand on here.
